Wildlife of the Falkland and Ascension Islands

A wildlife video shot on a field trip to the Falkland Islands and Ascension Island.

The Falkland Islands are a haven for wildlife. I visited Sea Lion island, Surf Bay and Volunteer Point whilst filming this video. It’s possible to get  close to the wildlife at both locations. I was lucky to see Penguins (Gentoo penguins, Magellanic penguins, King penguins) and Elephant seals.

Ascension Island is home to some interesting wildlife. It’s famous as a green turtle nesting site. They swim all the way hear from Brazil to nest on the beaches. I encountered a few early morning as they departed for the ocean. After a long trek I managed to track down some Masked Booby Birds. I also encountered a large number of Sooty Terns near Wideawake airfield.

I’ve uploaded this footage here to share with you some of the beautiful creatures that live on these remote islands.

I hope to return to the Falkland Islands as part of my video series exploring remote places.
